TRICK
OR TREAT FOR UNICEF
Make a world of
difference in your classroom
Build brighter
futures with UNICEF
Every child has the right to an education. For a third year, Canadian
children will raise funds for the Schools for Africa programme,
a joint initiative of UNICEF and the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
Please join UNICEF this October for the Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF
campaign. You and your students will help thousands of kids in Malawi
and Rwanda to go to school, and make a difference in the lives of
children through other vital initiatives around the world.
We’ve changed our campaign: more fun, more ease, and more
impact
In collaboration with educators across Canada, we revitalized the
Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF campaign in 2006. Our programme is now
more engaging, educational and fun for Canadian kids, and relevant,
flexible and easy to implement for Canadian teachers. Instead of
collecting change on Halloween night with UNICEF boxes, thousands
of schools across Canada will learn about global citizenship and
raise funds throughout October in a variety of fun and creative
ways, from walks to bake sales to crazy costume days. We are thrilled
to be incorporating best practices from champion schools in the
upcoming campaign.
More flexible, more educational
As part of UNICEF Canada’s commitment to strengthening global
education here in Canada, the 2007 Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF campaign
will feature curriculum-linked resources to help meet your classroom’s
provincial global education and social justice learning objectives.
Participating schools
will receive the following easy-to-use resources designed by teachers:
• An educational DVD
• Classroom-ready learning tools
• Where available, trained speakers to visit your school and
present on various topics related to
children’s rights both here in Canada and in the developing
world
• A fun and interactive classroom thermometer to track fundraising
progress
• And for many participating schools,
UNICEF candy bags that children can proudly carry on Halloween night
We recognize that teachers are extremely busy and we have designed
the campaign with that in mind. We are delighted to report that
the majority of educators surveyed who participated in last year’s
campaign found it easier to implement than other school fundraisers.
Partners in Education
UNICEF’s commitment to global education in Canada is a year-round
one. We now have
Education for Development staff across the country; trained teachers
who work in partnership with other teachers to develop classroom-ready
learning resources linked to provincial curricula. They also work
in partnership to address child protection and development issues
affecting schools such as bullying, respect for human rights and
other aspects of children’s health and well-being. To learn
