CANADIAN STUDENTS
HELP REBUILD
AFGHANISTAN
LIBRARIES
NEGLECTED OR DESTROYED BY
DECADES OF WAR
Starting in 2002, students in the University of Manitoba Faculties
of Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing collected donated
textbooks to send via Canadian Forces to universities in Kabul,
Kandahar and Herat, working together under the Books with
Wings (http://bookswithwings.ca) project. Students at the
University of Toronto, Memorial University of Newfoundland,
and the University of Western Ontario continued to help out this
year. Over 3400 books have been shipped so far, valued at an
average of $150 each (over $500,000 worth). Many more books
are needed. In 2006/2007 we are expanding to books in
Mathematics, Engineering, Chemistry and Pharmacy.
