World Destination Risks
The risk of acquiring an illness or disease depends on many aspects; the amount
of time spent, mode of travel, and access to health resources.
The same country may have little risks for a businessman but a casual backpacker
would come into additional risk. Prevalence of diseases vary country to country
and even within provinces or states of the same country.
Because of the changing information, it is difficult to keep an updated advisory
on risks to each country. At our clinic, we use multiple sources- websites,
textbooks, journals, and government advisories, to give a reasonable assessment
of the risks of specific diseases in countries around the world.
Anyone wishing to know a 'thumbnail' sketch of what they may need, will be
told over the phone, what the general requirements and recommendations are
for each country and what they would likely be charged for their visit and
vaccinations. This is not the same as giving advice over the phone as it is
impossible to give exact information or advice to someone we have not seen
for a medical consultation.
To get an accurate account of what is really needed for each individual going
on their trip, we recommend they make an appointment where their full itinerary

|
medical history will be
reviewed. Vaccinations will then be recommended and administered based on
informed consent. All our vaccines are safe but some can be quite expensive.
We will only give those vaccines recommended and any others that the travelers
request.
In some cases where the
risk of a disease is very small and the vaccine is very expensive, we will
briefly discuss it and allow each patient to decide him or herself, what they
prefer.
Our consultation for Malaria is similar with choices being offered based on
the type of Malaria-resistance found in that part of the world as well as
the side effects and cost.
We have tried to keep
our website simple yet accurate and recognize that many of our clients wish
to know more about their destination. There are many excellent websites that
give a country-by-country breakdown of the prevalence of diseases for travelers.
