Maritime Medical Kits
The following are suggestions for sea going medical kits.
We have made a distinction between cruising kits (for vessels within 20 km of shore and within radio contact, which should include resources to treat common problems and stabilize severe ones prior to evacuation) and an offshore medical kit
(which should have more comprehensive resources for prolonged treatments). Additional resources may include a satellite phone, intubation kit, oxygen and defibrillator.

Medications for seasickness:
-Bonamine (meclizine)
-Dramamine (gravol)
-ginger tabs
-Dicletin (for pregnant women)
-Transcopolamine patches
-phenergen pill or injection
Pain medication:
-Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID's) (e.g. Naproxen, Voltaren)
-COX-II NSAID's (Celebrex, Vioxx)
-Narcotics (Questionable ?)
-Tylenol plain
-ASA
Sun Protection:
-Sunblock SPF 25 (Should protect from both UVA and UVB rays)
-Lip balm
-Aloe Vera
-Corticosteroid Cream (for sunburn)
-Voltaren Cream (for sunburn)
-a suggestion is to avoid topical lidocaine for treatment of sunburn
-Most important: Have adequate clothing, hats, sunglasses, for prevention of sun injuries.
Minor Wound Care:
-Waterproof adhesive bandages
-Elastoplast Knuckle Bandages
-Antiseptic Wipes
-Sterile Saline to irrigate wound with syringes -Lidocaine Anesthetic
-Povidine
-Steri-Strips
-Dermabond Adhesive
-Suture Kit (if appropriately trained to use this kit)

Antibiotics: (Laypeople need proper instruction prior to use) -Keflex
-Cipro
-Cloxacillin
-Amoxil
-Zithromax
-Cipro Eye Drops
-Acyclovir cream for oral herpes
-Acyclovir or other antiviral for herpes zoster
-diflucan for yeast infections
-Metronidazole for giardia (Note: in consultation with a remote physician many of the above could be extremely useful in stabilizing a problem, but care must be used) Trauma Supplies:

-gortex lining for casts optional
-should have a cast saw if full casts applied, for quick removal

Gynecology Supplies:
-Urine pregnancy kit
-Urine dip stick
-Birth control-useful for missed pill, dysfunctional bleeding and morning after pill
-16 F foley catheter

-Zantac for indigestion, scromboid poisoning
Fungal infections:
-Tinactin Powder
-Lamisil Cream
Nasal Decongestant:

Marine Envenomations: (Jelly Fish and other)
Please note that the proper treatment of different envenamations is specific to the suspected bite and people should seek specific medical advice.
Rubbing alcohol (40-70%) and white vinegar (5% acetic acid) may be used.
